What you should bring for the course For the course you will have a wetsuit, paddling jacket, kayak, paddle, spraydeck and safety equipment available to you. For the course you should bring - ● Nice big lunch. ● Powerbar / fruit / chocolate / nuts / raisins - quick energy to bring on the water. ● Water bottle (it's important to be hydrated). ● Appropriate kayaking shoes, like neoprene shoes (wet shoes). If you do not have neoprene shoes, these can be purchased in our store for a special course price. ● Innerwear according to the 3-layer principle (described below). Throughout the course it is possible to purchase coffee or tea, bottled water or fizzy drinks in our shop. We also recommend that you bring: ● Swimwear / towel. ● A beenie hat to wear when in and on the water is nice for warmth (even on sunny days). ● Cap or sunshade (also nice if it rains). ● Sunscreen and sunglasses are usually required if it's sunny weather ● Spectacle cord (if you want to bring your glasses or sunglasses on the water) ● Warm clothes for the breaks At our kayak center and shop at Amager Beach the store opens half an hour before the official start of the course. If convenient you are welcome to come beforehand and make use of the offers above, by stating your name and course date when purchasing. You will find a varied selection of water bottles, hats, caps, gloves, spectacle cords, underwear and outerwear. What you bring on the water is also possible to loose in the water and Kajakhotellet does not take responsibility for lost effects. Please note that if you take the course at Kalvebod Bølge, our shop at location only has a selected few items like neoprene shoes, water bottles, sunglasses and spectacle cords. Understand the 3 layer principle and how you dress to the circumstances! To be prepared for any weather conditions you need to know the principles of the 3 layers. The principle consists of a - - Base layer (1st layer), a wicking layer, like wool or ski underwear. (NOT cotton) - Intermediate layaer (2nd layer), which is an insulating layer of wool or fleece. You want a thicker layer the cooler the air/water. Wool is always nice, because it warms even when wet. - Outer layer (3rd layer), is water and windproof (here we use the paddle jacket as well as the wet suit which insulates and is water resistant). Additionally, you can keep the extremities warm (feet, hands and head) with neopren shoes, gloves / mittens and hat / balaclava When the temperature drops - and for those who easily become cold Drysuit rentals: We have a limited number of semidrysuits avalable for rent for 150,- DKK per day. Semidrysuits needs to be booked before the course. To reserve a drysuit we need to know your height and weight, and the course date. Contact us at info@kajakhotellet.dk When the water and/or air temperature is below 12 degrees, we recommend: ● Hands: Neoprene gloves or mittens (mittens are the warmest solution). ● Headwear: A balaclava which is a full face garment keeps in heat very well. ● Bring wool socks, wool or ski underwear, as well as a fleece sweater all to have underneath the wetsuit and jacket. Modern wool (Merino wool) does not scratch and wool warms even when wet. Get a head start in the kayak Preparation - a good start is important: A kayak course is new and exciting, and contains lots of play and challenge, both mentally and physically. You get naturally tired of being out in the fresh air. So be sure to be well rested, eat well and drink well before the course. We don't recommend that you make other plans for the evening, as you will certainly be exhausted. The best thing to do when you get home is to focus on relaxation - fully deserved after several hours in the fresh air and time spend on (and in) the water! Being comfortable in water: One of the prerequisites for kayaking is that you not only feel comfortable in the kayak, but also in the water. If you feel uncomfortable with the idea of having your head submerged in water, we recommend that you take some time in a swimming pool before the course. Here you can make somersaults and "handstands" in the water, and take time on how long you can hold your breath under water. Rescue exercises are an essential part of our Euro Paddle Pass courses and to pass a course you must show that you are comfortable in water. Last but not least Course certificate: After the course you will receive Kajakhotellets course certificate describing what exercises you have completed. Have you completed a 16 hour IPP 1 + 2 course and passed all exercises, you can order an IPP 2 certificate. The certificate costs 230,- DKK and can be ordered after passing the course by following this link! The IPP 2 certificate can be mandatory to enroll in a kayak club or for renting a kayak. Please note that the certificate has to be ordered within 14 days of finishing the course. Special circomstances: If there are specific things the instructor should be aware of, for example diabetes, medicine or other things that may have importance to your physical or mental alertness, we would like to know in advance. All information will be treated confidentially. Children / Youth: Please note that all under 18 years of age must have a parent / guardian signature to participate, unless they themselves participate in the course. We would like to be informed in advance about participating children / adolescents. Further questions / remarks: Please contact us if you have any further questions on telephone 3615 1610 or email: info@kajakhotellet. If you can not make it to the course please send your cancellation by email. Should you have purchased a cancellation insurance and cancelled 24 hours prior to the course you will be contacted in order to find a new course date. Cancellations 24 hours or less voids the insurance. Course program: You can find the course program here (in Danish)! A good thing to know is that the water exercises usually are at the end of a days program. Can't wait to get started, then watch the sea kayak techniques on our Youtube channel (in Danish)! Or follow Kajakhotellet on Facebook and be inspired. All of us from Kajakhotellet wish you lots of fun on the course and a great experience on the water!
